PBIS Behavior System
Here are some great questions you could ask your child each day to gauge how their school year is going:
- What did you do to earn a star punch today?
- What could you have done differently to earn a star punch today?
- What goal will you set to earn more star punches tomorrow?
- What star punch did you earn that you are most proud of? Why?

A Note from the Front Office
Parents/guardians, we are implementing new policies regarding the students' dismissals and pick up procedures. If you would like to change your child(ren)'s dismissal type (i.e bus, car rider, walker, etc.), please email our dismissal secretary, Tiana Spencer, before 2:30PM with your request. We will no longer allow dismissal changes if they have not been requested before the 2:30PM cut-off. If you would like to pick up your child early from school, please call and/or email Ms. Spencer. Parents/guardians who are requesting early dismissal for the student(s) must be at the school to pick up their child(ren) before 3:15PM.
Please also note: The secretaries in the office are not permitted to call students from class to wait in the office ahead of time, per the principal's request. Once the adult responsible for pick up arrives, he/she/they should ring the bell and kindly inform the office that they are picking up a student for early dismissal. Upon arrival, the office will then call down to the classroom to request the student be dismissed.
We recognize that sometimes problems/issues occur last-minute, however we ask that you abide by these rules in order to assure that all students get dismissed accurately and with minimal confusion.
Please, if you have any questions, give us a call at (410)-612-1540 or email Ms. Spencer at tiana.spencer@hcps.org 🙂
First Quarter Grades and Expectations
In grades K- 5, HCPS has made the decision to do report cards in lieu of November Conferences this year. Students in K through 2 will receive competency scores in each of the grade level standards while students in 3 through 5 will receive letter grades.
As such, we wanted to let you know some important information regarding expectations and accessing your child's report card. Please note that all grade levels, in particular our third graders who are receiving letter grades for the first time, have discussed grading policies as a class. If you should still want to discuss your child's individual strengths and needs with the teacher, you may reach out and set this opportunity up.
You may monitor your child’s progress often by logging into the Home Access Center (HAC). By registering for a HAC account, you will have access to grades throughout the quarter and there will not be any surprises once report cards arrive. Below is a link for registration. If you have any questions, please let your child’s teacher know.

Our Monthly WHY
Join us for coffee and light snacks, and sit with us as we work together to make Edgewood Elementary School the best it can be for our children. Our Monthly WHY stands for We Hear You and it is a no- stress, casual opportunity to chat with other parents, community members and school staff. We want to hear you! Please come with any ideas, suggestions, praises or concerns so that we can strengthen the partnership between our school and the families that we serve, and we need to hear your voice.
It will run from 2:00pm until dismissal on Monday, October 18th. If your child is a car rider, we will ensure you are out of the WHY and into your car in time to get in the pick up line. We hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please reach out to the school at 410-612-1540.
